you guys are good at some ratings, but i've got to tell u that that rating was SUPER wrong. Mamma Mia was my favorite movie. I LOVED It FULL PRICE rating
Good review, guys! I still haven't seen the movie, but I still probably will.
Basically, you said it was a chick flick for hopeless romantics. Well, I'm a chick, and at the moment, somewhat of a hopeless romantic, so it sounds perfect. Plus, I have a weakness for choreographed dancing in movies.
But, I will take note to not try and watch this on a date ever, unless, as John pointed out, I wasn't actually trying to "watch" the movie........
I love ABBA. I love Meryl Streep. That said, I watched "Mama Mia" in both it's original Broadway form and in it's more recent cinema incarnation and felt equally ill both times. I didn't like it on Broadway because of exactly what you mentioned; there could have been a much better story told through their music. Plus, all Broadway produces lately is mind numbing tripe to appease the masses; any old classic sitcom or pop music album born again as musical theatre has taken the place of actual originality. It's obvious that the star studded cast of the film version signed on to try and capitalize on the current national obsession with all things cheesy. I'm sensing a heavy cross over of American Idol fans and those who claim to love this movie. Still love ABBA? A better film to watch is "Muriel's Wedding" (1994). Still love Meryl Streep? Watch just about ANYTHING else within her filmography and you're in for a treat. I have to say...I was actually hoping you had some sort of rating system lower than your "Dollar Theatre". Like the "Stay Home - Save Your Dollar" rating for just such a film as "Mama Mia".
What People have Said About The Cinematic Experience:
"Jason ran in the earlier movies, but then once he was killed and came back to life in #5, I think that's when he became more zombie like. I'm not 100% on that, but pretty certain."
-Rob and Mel (Friday the 13th) "Stop saying panties! Stop saying panties!"
-Laura (The Unborn) "Cameron is absolutely right. Despite the fact that I hate Jason Statham, this movie is SHIT!"
-abok6 (Crank) " What a horrible review. These guys must have ADD." ~BoondockinBoston (Let the Right One In) "No way that capsule would stay closed for 50 years; kids would have pillaged it by '71 or sooner. "
-TidusSloan71 (Knowing) " Funniest previously on ever!
I love you guys."
-HDLV199990 (Race to Witch Mountain) "It was alot better than that. you cant really enjoy this kind of film that does not make it a bad one. Go watch iron man instead."
-GamerGuy1991 (Rachel Getting Married)
The Cinematic Rating System
What we'd be willing to pay if we could go back in time in a DeLorean to when we were watching the movie for the first time. Or, in other words, what we think you should pay... assuming your opinion is identical to ours.
